NPPS can customize on-site training for your organization around a variety of outdoor environment topics, including outdoor supervision, creating quality outdoor learning spaces, health and safety in the outdoor environments, and conducting playground inspections.
On-Site training can include, but is not limited to, the following themes:
- Creating Quality Outdoor Environments
Creating a high quality, safe, and inclusive early childhood outdoor environment is a challenge. We guide agencies through the many safety standards and best practices to be considered. Additionally the outdoor environment brings with it challenges, such as weather, sun and wind exposure, and simply getting the children outside just to name a few. This training assists programs in development of a long-range plan to create a quality outdoor early childhood environment. This training is geared for the early childhood community and for school-age children.
- Outdoor Safety and Quality in Early Childhood Programs
This one or two day training will target administrators, safety personal, and other professionals, as appropriate, and will focus on S.A.F.E.™ and quality outdoor play environments in the early childhood learning communities.
In addition general information identifying center playground and other outdoor environmental hazards will assure all professionals provide accurate and consistent accountability when inspecting and consulting on the outdoor environment.
- Supervision
This interactive one or two day course gives an overview of the fundamentals of playground supervision. It will review a playground supervisor’s responsibilities for active monitoring, the most common hazards on the playground and how to protect children from them, along with establishing playground procedures and policies.
- Playground Safety: Planning and Nurturing SAFE™ Outdoor Early Learning Environments
This workshop will discuss NPPS’s S.A.F.E.™ Playground Injury Prevention framework (Supervision, Appropriate Environment, Fall Surfacing and Equipment Maintenance).
Contents will also include identifying playground hazards, understanding liability and risk management, complying with national health and safety standards, complying with early childhood quality standards, meeting Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, and exploring ways to take curriculum outside. Early childhood quality standards addressed will include National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Standards, the Environment Rating Scales, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and National Health and Safety Performance Standards.
